2017–18 budget highlights

The 2017–18 EHP budget delivers a number of initiatives, at a state and regional level, to protect the Great Barrier Reef, tackle climate change and safeguard wildlife and the environment.

Statewide initiatives

Advancing Queensland Waste Reform
$1.5 million to promote waste diversion and recycling programs and reduce landfill.

Community Sustainability Action Grants
$4 million for grants to local wildlife, environment and heritage conservation groups to undertake community based initiatives.

Future of Queensland’s Environmental Regulator
$8.3 million to improve the understanding and identification of non-compliance risks, mine rehabilitation and delivery of cost effective compliance activities.

Queensland container refund scheme and plastic bag ban
$2.5 million to implement a state wide container refund program and end use of plastic bags.

Queensland climate change strategies
$5 million to lead the Queensland Government Climate Change Strategy

Queensland Indigenous Land and Sea Grants
$500,000 to support Queensland indigenous communities undertake projects that protect and conserve natural and cultural resources. 

Urban Erosion and Sediment Control
$530,000 to assist local governments and industry manage land development, erosion and sediment control and urban stormwater.

Heritage
Continue to protect and promote Queensland’s built heritage.

Indigenous Land and Sea Ranger program
$945,000 to protect environmental and indigenous cultural heritage values.
