Purpose of compliance alerts

The Department of Environment and Heritage Protection (EHP) uses compliance alerts to assist industry improve its compliance practices and better understand its responsibilities in achieving good environmental practices.

The alerts also provide operators with information to help them meet their obligations. In some circumstances, taking enforcement action, such as prosecution, is in the public interest.

EHP is committed to an ongoing analysis of its enforcement activity, so that common areas of non-compliance can be identified and highlighted to relevant industry sectors. Information can then be provided about how they can improve performance and avoid enforcement action.
