Community and landholder information

Australia's $28 billion per year oil and gas industry contributes 58% of Australia's primary energy, 2.5% of Australia's gross domestic product, and almost $9 billion in direct tax payments.

Today, coal seam gas (CSG) is the major domestic gas fuel source in Queensland providing about 90% of the state’s domestic gas supply. Gas is also used in power generation and by manufacturing industries.

With the CSG industry developing into a substantial liquefied natural gas (LNG) export industry there has been increased community and landholder interest in its management.

The Department of Environment and Heritage Protection is committed to delivering relevant, accurate and current information to the community relating to the CSG/LNG industry.

More information on the CSG and LNG industry is available including facts about fraccing, the stringent controls that CSG operators must meet and the safeguards that have been put in place to protect landholders and the environment.
