Abbot Point Bulk Coal Pty Ltd—Caley Valley Wetland investigation

The department has investigated the potential release of coal or coal fines into Caley Valley Wetlands as a result of an authorised stormwater release from the Abbot Point Coal Terminal.


Gladstone is one of the most tested waterways in Australia, with long term monitoring programs being carried out by government and industry in the region as well as an expanded monitoring effort to support management of the potential impacts of current development.

Hopeland and surrounding region testing

The department is continuing to test and monitor soil gas contaminants in the Hopeland and surrounding region as part of an extensive ongoing investigation.

Townsville Dust Monitoring Program

The Townsville Dust Monitoring Program was implemented by the Queensland Government in March 2008 to obtain information on the levels of particles and heavy metals in the community surrounding the Townsville Port.
