Key finding
Emissions from the transport sector have increased 18% between 2005 and 2014. Road transport including passenger cars was the main source of emissions.
Queensland’s transport sector greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions have grown steadily from 11.2 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent in 1990 to reach 21.1 million tonnes in 2014.
The transport sector is currently Queensland’s second largest source of emissions overall. Road transport is the main source of GHG emissions with nearly half of all transport emissions produced by passenger cars.
Between 1990 and 2014, emissions from passenger vehicles, rail and bus transport, domestic aviation, light commercial vehicles and heavy duty vehicles have all increased, reflecting Queensland’s economic growth.
Motorcycles have been excluded from the graph as their emissions contribution is very small.
